Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Make your organization discoverable and citable in generative AI answers that shape buyer decisions.

Buyers increasingly ask AI systems for recommendations. We help organizations become clear, consistent, and citable in those answers through entity clarity, answer-ready content, machine-readable surfaces, and a measurement loop that connects visibility to business outcomes.

Who this is for

Marketing, product, and leadership teams that need to show up accurately in generative answers and convert that visibility into demand.

Approach

  1. Assess how generative engines currently understand and cite you
  2. Strengthen entity clarity, answers, and machine-readable signals
  3. Install a measurement loop for visibility and citation quality
  4. Connect generative visibility work to first-party demand outcomes

What we deliver

  • Generative visibility assessment and roadmap
  • Entity and answer-ready content architecture
  • Machine surfaces for AI discovery and citation
  • Measurement cadence tied to demand outcomes

Common questions

What is the difference between SEO, AEO, and GEO?

SEO optimizes for a ranked list of links. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) optimizes for being the extracted answer in a featured snippet or AI overview. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) optimizes for being named and cited inside a synthesized answer from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Perplexity. They share fundamentals like crawlability and structure, then diverge sharply: SEO rewards authority on your domain, while GEO rewards corroboration across sources you do not own.

Why doesn't my company show up when I ask ChatGPT or Gemini about my industry?

Almost always one of three reasons. The engine cannot resolve your company as a distinct entity, because nothing outside your own website corroborates that you exist. Your pages use internal vocabulary that never matches the queries the model fans a prompt out into. Or something mechanical is blocking retrieval, like canonical URLs that redirect, a JavaScript-only page, or a CDN turning away AI crawlers. The first is the most common and the least obvious.

How do I get my business to appear in AI answers?

Make the entity resolvable before optimizing any page. That means one canonical domain, structured data that links your external profiles together, and corroborating mentions on sources you do not control: a company profile, directories, public repositories, and coverage. Then match the buyer's vocabulary rather than your own, and publish the formats engines actually cite, which are comparisons, cost explainers, definitions, and benchmarks rather than opinion pieces.

How long does GEO take to work?

Mechanical fixes to crawlability and structured data can surface within days once the index refreshes, and submitting to Bing matters here because ChatGPT search and Copilot lean on it while most teams never submit. Entity resolution is slower, typically weeks to months, because it depends on independent sources appearing and being recrawled. Anyone promising citation in a generative answer on a fixed timeline is guessing.

Is GEO just SEO with a new name?

No, and the difference is where the retrieval corpus lives. Classic SEO is mostly about your own site. For vendor-selection questions, generative engines weight third-party sources heavily, because a company's own site is the least credible source about that company. That single fact reverses the usual budget split: most of the work that moves generative visibility happens off your domain.

What is llms.txt and do we need one?

It is a plain-text file at the root of your site that states, in a form a model can read cheaply, who you are, what you offer, and where your machine-readable surfaces live. It is a convention rather than a standard, and no engine guarantees it is read. It costs very little to publish and it forces a useful exercise: saying plainly what your company does without marketing language. Ours is at /llms.txt.
